Through the study of English, students develop an understanding for reading, writing and spoken language, enabling them to gain skills in writing clearly, accurately and coherently, helping to develop each student’s expression and creativity.

The overarching aim for English is to promote high standards of language and literacy by equipping pupils with a strong command of the spoken and written word, and to develop their love of literature through widespread reading for enjoyment, allowing them to become independent learners and successful in many aspects of their lives.

The English curriculum at ISPH allows students to develop an understanding of grammar and a knowledge of linguistic conventions for reading, writing and spoken language. Through the study of English, students will develop the ability to adapt their language style for a range of contexts, purposes and audiences. Students are promoted to explain their understanding and ideas, make formal presentations and participate in debate; key transferable skills that are invaluable in a students life.

At ISPH, the English curriculum is explored through a range of events and activities such as:

  • Book Week: A yearly event which the whole school takes part in, allowing students to express and showcase their admiration for reading and english literature.
