Key Stage 2
Key Stage 2 is part of the Primary School at The International School @ ParkCity Hanoi. It caters for students aged 7 to 11 years old and is a vital link between Key Stage 1 and the Secondary School. Our warm and engaging learning atmosphere helps students flourish both academically and socially, as they develop the independence and knowledge needed to succeed in the older year groups.
Our experienced Key Stage 2 team works diligently with our students to grow their independence, responsibility and collaboration skills. Students learn to take risks, develop resilience when tackling challenges, and to collaborate and communicate effectively with their peers. It is the establishment of these personal skills and the ability to apply their knowledge and skills which enable ISPH students to become confident, agile and successful young people.
Curriculum
Students in Key Stage 2 follow the English National Curriculum for England, enhanced by the International Primary Curriculum (IPC).
The English and Mathematics frameworks in the National Curriculum:
- The English Framework has three main elements: reading, writing and oracy (speaking & listening).
- The Mathematics framework focuses on core arithmetic knowledge. It also develops problem-solving skills through learning: sorting; ordering; grouping; measuring; calculating; comparing, manipulating, organising and interpreting information.
The International Primary Curriculum (IPC) focuses on three main aims to support learning and teaching:
- To help children learn the subject knowledge, skills and understandings they need to become better aware of the world around them.
- To help children develop the personal skills they need to take an active part in the world throughout their lives.
- To help children develop an international mindset alongside an awareness of their own nationality.
Daily Mathematics and English lessons ensure full coverage of the English National Curriculum. All subjects are set within the context of the IPC, wherever possible. The following subject areas are specifically covered within the IPC themes:
The following subject areas are taught by specialist teachers and are linked to IPC themes where possible:
Our teaching strategies are personalised to address the needs of the students; they are empowered to work both independently and collaboratively. The emphasis in Years 3-6 is on developing the students’ independence and personal leadership. As they progress through Key Stage 2, the students have further opportunities to develop as leaders of themselves and leaders within the school. This emphasis on independence and leadership ensures a smooth transition to the Secondary School.
We also place a great focus on wellbeing and use our COALS lessons to teach and guide students through three important areas of their development and understanding:
- Relationships
- Health and Wellbeing
- Living in the wider world
