A solid academic foundation from the A-Level programme not only helps students prove themselves through exams and scholarship selection rounds, but also enables them to excel from their very first days at university.
The story of Tho Quang – ISPH alumnus who graduated in 2025 – is the clearest testament to this. Completing the 2024-2025 academic year with outstanding A-Level results (3A* and 1A in Mathematics, Computer Science, Economics, and Physics), Quang is honored to be one of the few Vietnamese students to receive a 100% full scholarship from the Hong Kong Government to study Computer Science at The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) – one of Asia’s leading universities, ranked #3 in Hong Kong, #44 globally, and among the top 10 universities in Asia according to QS World University Ranking 2025.
Quang shares: “The in-depth knowledge gained from studying A-Level at ISPH has helped me save nearly 50% of the time required for first-year university credits. This gives me more time to explore greater learning and research opportunities.”
THE PATH TO SUCCESS
For Quang, the HKUST scholarship was not a matter of luck, but the result of a personalized learning pathway with clear direction from his very first days at ISPH.
- Discovering passion through IGCSE Quang had the freedom to choose 11 diverse subjects – from STEM (Computer Science, Mathematics, Additional Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology) to arts and humanities (English, English Literature, Global Perspectives, Drama) – to explore his interests and strengths.
- Focusing on strengths at A-Level After identifying his passion for Computer Science, Quang concentrated on 4 suitable subjects and achieved outstanding results of 3A* and 1A in Mathematics, Computer Science, Economics, and Physics.
- Personalized guidance and counseling The personalized counseling process from teachers and family helped Quang both expand his knowledge and skills, and clearly define his path forward in Computer Science.
- Holistic development Beyond a solid academic foundation, Quang developed leadership, organization, and teamwork skills through leading the student council, organizing TEDxYouth, participating in school musicals in various roles, sports competitions, and community support programs.
