Congratulations to Mai Khue (Year 9) on an outstanding performance at the Australasian Public Speaking Championships 2026.
Few things ask more of a young person than getting to her feet in front of an international panel and making an argument in her second language. Khue did it because she wanted to, and because she was curious to see how far she could take it.
The championships were held online on 12 and 13 September for students aged 7 to 18 across the Asia Pacific region, with three speaking categories judged under the Modified WIDPSC format. Khue competed for ISPH and came away as Champion of Persuasive Speaking in the Junior Category, a finalist in Interpretive Reading, and Southeast Asia’s fifth best speaker.
Passion and risk taking are core values at ISPH and sit at the heart of what we hope our students will develop. Finding the thing you love is one half of it. Backing yourself to enter a contest where nothing is promised is the other.
None of this begins on a competition weekend. It is built in the ordinary run of a school week, in lessons where students present to their classmates, defend a position and think honestly about how it landed.
๐ Well done, Khue. Our thanks to the teachers who have encouraged her to follow what she loves.
