Mr. Oliver Bale
Humanities Teacher (Appointed from the Academic Year 2025-2026)

Oliver is excited to join ISPH with nine years of experience in education. His teaching journey began in Hanoi, where he spent three years teaching Primary students before returning to the UK to re-train as a Humanities specialist. Since then, he has worked for four and a half years in Secondary schools in London, primarily teaching History, with additional experience in Geography and Religious Education. Most recently, he served for three years as Head of History at a comprehensive Secondary school.
Oliver holds a Bachelor’s degree in History and has completed extensive professional development, including CPD courses in EAL and the NPQLT, to ensure his students receive the best possible learning experience. He believes that studying the Humanities helps shape well-rounded young people by equipping them with the skills to analyse information critically and understand the world around them.
Oliver is passionate about exploring how the past has shaped the modern world and encouraging students to consider the impact of historical change on society. He also believes in the value of collaborative, outdoor learning and has supported this by becoming a qualified Duke of Edinburgh assessor and organizing various excursions. Beyond the classroom, he encourages a balanced lifestyle by coaching rugby, chess, and photography clubs at the schools where he has worked.
Outside of school, Oliver enjoys outdoor sports and activities, including climbing, hiking, running and football. He has previously ran the Vietnam mountain marathon and joined local sports teams and he looks forward to exploring rural Vietnam and Hanoi’s opportunities in these areas. Additionally, Oliver loves reading and cooking and is excited to further explore Vietnam’s vibrant food scene while resuming his Vietnamese language studies.
